krakani lumi

Mount William National Park

The wukalina walk (part two of three)

krakani lumi (resting place) has been designed to rest lightly on its environment. From just a short distance away, it is invisible, so comletely is it nestled into the landscape. Our guides told us that the domed structure that is pictured below, and which is repeated in a smaller scale in the sleeping pods, makes reference to traditional shelters made by aboriginal people living on Tasmania’s west coast, which were effective and well-insulated against the elements of that challenging environment.

Beach walk

After a solid 10 or 12kms to reach krakani lumi on our first day, our second day was gentle, with a stroll along the beach before returning to camp for some fireside activities and lunch.
