It is Autumn in Hobart’s Parks and Gardens, where our history is celebrated and our public discourses are conducted.
After exploring the Hobart Rivulet and Cascades Gardens at this time of year, I generally return to the city via Fitizroy Gardens, possibly one of Hobart’s less-visited, or at least slightly hidden, gardens.
In the quarter century I have lived in my little house in New Town, it has played host to many many feasts, gatherings and celebrations and marked the changing seasons.

The garden at New Town had been neglected for years and was overgrown with thorny prunus, long grass and mud.
Hobart does a good line in autumn colour, and its parks and gardens are some of the best places to enjoy the spectacle
