A highlight of this year’s Dark Mofo was the return of Ryoji Ikeda’s 15km tall beam of light and sound installation Spectra to town, on a permanent basis, having been purchased by David Walsh. Spectra won the affection of Hobart’s residents during the first Dark Mofo back in 2013, when it graced the Cenotaph.

I combined three short walks around the town to make a very pleasant afternoon stroll of around 2 1/2 hours and about 8km.
Sunday in the Southern Midlands
Tasmania’s Midlands Highway is the island’s main north-south route, linking the two major cities of Hobart and Launceston. It runs for about 200km through a broad grassland valley that contains farmland, sheep properties and historic towns and villages that were once major coaching stops for a journey that could take several days.
